JULY MACON COUNTY ARC MEETING REPORT

The MCARC meeting was called to order by President Jesse Jones, KDØETU. There were eight (8) members present. Charles Roberts, WBØHLW, Club Treasurer, reported that the club checking account had a balance of $892.32. the good news was a report that Becky Belfour, NØBEX, had made some positive progress with an ongoing health issue and Ron Harrison, NTØC was a lot better recently.

Dale Bagley, KØKY, reported on the 2025 Field Day operation and noted that the Macon County Home Press had not printed the article about this Year’s ARRL Field Day. That was 100 points that we were unable to count this year. The report for the Field Day was submitted to the ARRL and they calculated a preliminary total score of 1,186 points. The entry would not have been possible except for the great job that Ira Huff, AI7HC did in combining all of the writeLog files into one. The NØPR Field Day operation is very appreciative of Ira’s help. Charlie Roberts got the rotor and cables fixed and operative for this year’s Field Day and it was possible to reliably turn our Yagi Tri-Band antenna without any issues.

Chris Clark, KFØGUS, reported on the Tri-County ARC’s Field Day operation at the National Guard Building in Moberly. They had 11 participants and it was quite successful. This years Field Day operation was the Tri-County ARC’s first field day in many years. Good to have them back.

In September the MCARC will have its annual Radio Club Picnic at Long Branch Lake. Everyone is encouraged to add the Club Picnic on Thursday, SEPTEMBER 24TH to their calendars.

In October the Club’s Lester Dent – Doc Savage Special Event will be held on October 17th at the Round House, where we will set-up a couple of stations and make as many contacts with WØD as we can. Members of the Macon County ARC can also use WØD and operate for home both on October 17 and 18. If you operate from your home station, you will need to send a copy of your contacts, Date, Time, Call, Report, etc to Dale, KØKY. That is needed to confirm contacts for those requesting QSL and/or Certificates. I am hoping for a good turn-out of members and guests at the Round House Club operation on Saturday October 17, 2026 from 8:30 to 4:00 p.m. You don’t have to operate, but you can if you would like. It is a great social time for club members to get together and visit.

OTHER AMATEUR RADIO NEWS

Stanley Eaton, WAØKRS, passed away at Loch Haven Aug 12, 2026. He was born on Feb. 20, 1929 in Callao, MO and was a long time member of the Macon County ARC. Stanley was a electronic technician for several local businesses and got his training in the Military in WWII. He live near Ethel MO at the bottom of steep hills on the East and South. Janet wanted to have a TV, but reception was impossible. Stanley took a course in welding and built a 100 foot tower with a “Crows Nest” at the top and installed both a TV antenna and an Amateur Radio antenna. While he was building the tower, someone asked him how he planned to set it up and Stan said that he’d figure that out when the time came. Well, the time came and lucky for Stanley, the REA was placing new power poles in front of his house. Stan asked the crew if they could help him put up the tower and they agreed. After the tower was bolted to the concrete base, he climbed the tower and could see over the hills as he calculated, he could get his wife some TV programs to watch. Stan was a regular check-in for the Macon County 2-m net after he got a two-meter radio. He spent the last 7 years of his life at Loch Haven and his wife Janet joined him there in 2026. I know Janet was happy to be with Stanley and helped him all she could. Stan will be missed by all those that knew him.

I am happy to report that Tim Slover, N0TTS, has managed to complete the paperwork and is now has the Amateur Radio Call KCØELC. Tim’s dad was Walter Slover Jr, KCØELC and I know Walt is proud that his son now is using his Amateur Callsign.
